Despite the fact that thousands of tickets have been sold, Ronaldo will not be able to play in today's opening match for the Saudi club "Al-Nasr."
As he is currently serving a two-match ban imposed by the English Football Association (FA), superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo will have to wait to play his first match for Saudi club Al-Nasr.
Today, Ronaldo was supposed to play his first match against Al Ta'i, a club in the Saudi Pro League. This week, the soccer player, who is 37 years old, signed a contract with the Saudi club Al-Nasr for 200 million euros per year. This means that he will be paid 200 million euros per year until the year 2025.
Following an incriminating interview with Piers Morgan last month, Ronaldo was released by Manchester United. On Monday, he arrived in the Saudi city of Riyadh to a warm welcome.
On Tuesday, he went through his physical, and then he was officially shown the door at Nasr's place.
After that, he joined his new teammates for the club's first training session.
Al-Nasr had sold 28,000 tickets for their game against "Al-Tai" in the hopes that Ronaldo would make his debut on Friday.
However, the English Football Association (FA) has reminded him that Ronaldo was banned for two matches in November. After Ronaldo damaged a fan's phone during Manchester United's April match against Everton, the incident led to the imposition of the ban.
